Lighting a Cigarette near Inflammable Substances
Edge processing allows camera data to be analyzed directly on the hardware device, minimizing time lag and ultimately making all the difference in the case of a potential accident. On oil and gas sites, the lighting of a cigarette can often be the initial cause of a chain of highly dangerous events, including potential explosions.
Once the system detects that a cigarette has been lit, alerts are immediately triggered to alert health and safety staff to the incident, and immediately gaining precious time for them to resolve the problem, for example through immediately cutting off that area from the rest of the system.
